Freedom of conscience and religion in Europe – Actual Questions of State Religious Law

On 29th October 2021 at 14:00 will be held through the application MS Teams the state religious law webinar titled “Actual Questions of State Religious Law”. It is organized within the frame of the project of the Central European Professors’ Network (coordinated by the Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law in Budapest) by its member prof. JUDr. Mgr. Vojtech Vladár, PhD. that works at the Faculty of Law of the Comenius University in Bratislava. The main goal of the event is to discuss the most actual questions of state religious law that resonate not only in Slovakia or the Czech Republic but in the whole area of Central Europe.
Besides the organiser himself moderating the discussion reputable experts from Slovakia and the Czech Republic will take part in it. Of foreign scientists, we may mention primarily generally respected experts in the field of state religious law doc. JUDr. Stanislav Přibyl, Ph.D., Th.D., JC.D. working at the Faculty of Theology of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. As second will participate the excellent Romanist established also in the state religious law field JUDr. Kamila Bubelová, Ph.D. working at the Faculty of Law of Palacký University in Olomouc. The third will be JUDr. Jan Šejdl, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Law of the Charles University in Prague that is also devoted scientifically to this field. Of Slovak scientists, we may mention first and foremost one of the most recognized experts on our state religious law prof. doc. JUDr. Marek Šmid, PhD. working at the Faculty of Law of Trnava University in Trnava that participated even in the processes of negotiating, as well as concluding of the Basic treaty between the Slovak Republic and the Holy See in 2001. The second native scientist is also an outstanding expert in this field prof. prof. PaedDr. JCDr. Róbert Brtko, CSc. working at the Faculty of Law of the Comenius University in Bratislava. The lay public will be represented by the students of the Faculty of Law of the Comenius University in Bratislava.
As mentioned, from the contentual point of view the webinar will be oriented toward the actual questions of state religious law. In this field in the Central-European, as well as whole-European area dominate especially the topics of the level of cooperation between states and churches and religious societies in the field of individual, as well as constitutional religious freedom; religious tolerance; issue of exaggerating protection offered to small churches and religious societies, respectively preference of these churches and religious societies at the expense of the Catholic Church; the problem of religious symbols in the public sphere; conscientious objection; or financing, as well as models of financing of churches and religious societies. After expert discussion, even students will have the opportunity to raise questions.
The whole event will be recorded, then provided by the organiser with English subtitles and after all published at the website of the Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law in Budapest.
