(Legal) Issues Concerning the Content Moderation on Social Networks

“Social networks are changing the world. They have radically altered the way their users connect and communicate with each other, as well as the way they access and exchange information. These transformations are a double-edged sword. On the one hand, social networks play an important role in connecting (formerly) socially isolated individuals, offer the possibility of obtaining direct information about otherwise overlooked events (e.g., human rights violations in conflict areas) and enable networking of activist groups organizing demonstrations, charity events and awareness-raising for a wide variety of societal issues.”

Pandemic, State, and the Rule of Law

A brief description of the event:

The Slovenian authorities responded to the outbreak of pandemic COVID-19, inter alia, with measures and restrictions on fundamental rights similar to those in most other European countries. The COVID-19 crisis, led the government to declare a public health emergency in March 2020. This was withdrawn in the summer of 2020, reintroduced in the autumn of 2020 and then withdrawn again in the spring of 2021.

Conference on the future of Europe Dialogue on the Future of Europe: Is enlargement a key to the future?

The Ministry of Justice and the Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law are organising a high-profile international conference on 21 June 2021 in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe.

The conference consists of two thematic panel discussions.
Amongst other experts, our first panel “Credible enlargement perspectives for a stronger Europe”, will be featuring Judit Varga Minister of Justice (HU) and Péter Szijjártó Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary (HU).

The second panel discussion will focus on “Historical, political and legal arguments for the enlargement ” featuring speakers primarily from the academic sphere.

The webinar by doc. JUDr. David Sehnálek, Ph.D., was conducted online as a part of the Autumn School of Global Legal Skills. The Autumn School is an intensive program focusing on legal reasoning, legal interpretation and argumentation, work with literature, case law, and professional writing. It is organized by the Faculty of Masaryk University in cooperation with the European Academy of Legal Theory, the University of Vienna, and the Ferenc Mádl Institute of Comparative Law. Experts on legal theory from the USA, Austria, Sweden, Slovenia, and Czechia actively participate in this event.


Religious diversity

The presentation gives a general overview of the content and history of freedom of religion. It focuses on the issue of how states should relate to different religions. It shows that states may have different attitudes toward religions; the different models are due to historical reasons.
